Tonight at 9 p.m. CST candles were lit across the U.S. and Canada in remembrance of her life and the joy she brought to all.
Rest in Peace, Nikki.

Ann, I'm so sorry. Losing a pet is heartbreaking. I have my fifth Irish Setter lying at my feet. With the passing of Kelly, Shannon, Dugan and Duffy a little bit of my heart went with them.

Ann, blessings on Angel Nikki's passage. She is now, truly, an angel!
Nikki bears a strong resemblance to my daughter's rescue dog, Izzy - Isabella. That broke my heart for you all the more!

Nikki actually belongs to Kim, who lives in Missouri. She's part of an online group called diabeticritters, a support (and educational) group for people with diabetic pets.
Kim's loss was especially tragic as she's recovering from a broken shoulder and her husband from head injuries received in an auto-motorcycle accident that took the lives of two of their friends a week ago Sunday.
I'm not sure of the cause, but Nikki died Thursday while being boarded at the vet.

I am so sorry for Kim. I have lost five dogs and a cat. My dog now is getting up there and I am sure it will break my heart. Again. But I couldn't live without one. The joy they bring is unmeasurable.
Mary, I couldn't live without one either. I looked at the photos of Junior on your blog. He makes me smile. And you have lived in some really beautiful places!
Ann, she looks so much like our Molly. So sad that she's gone.
